Forum: netlabels Subject: Netlabel owners: can you still import releases the old way?

Hey all,

Just want to make _sure_ you can still add your own releases. This involves:

1. Uploading via FTP to audio-uploads.archive.org.
2. Going to http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-contribute.php
3. Importing the normal way.

The one change, I think, is that you can no longer see your release until it's been made live, so after you do the import, don't worry if the link to the release doesn't work.

Basically, it won't show up in that view until it's live on the server, _but_ you should be able to approve it from the contribution screen if you have admin rights.

Until we sort out these apparent problems with the new way of adding releases, this should be everyone's backup way of doing things!

s!

Yes, I can confirm that "the old way" stil works fine, and that indeed it will only appear after the import process has finished.

Simon, I was able to get WM031 online this way earlier today, but WM030 is stuck somewhere in the new procedure. Can you help to get it "live"?

I unstuck it. It just looks like a weird privileges problem for people who aren't admins, I think it should be easy to fix when it's properly diagnosed.

Ok, I think i've fixed all the problems that started late wednesday with this new audio system.

Users should be able to use the new
http://www.archive.org/create/
system to create new items and then after FTP uploading,
should be able to "pick" mediatype==audio,
collection==[netlabels subcollection]

In the "editxml" form, netlabels items should use the "Add another field" button and add "collection", value "netlabels" to properly associate item with 2 collections (netlabels collection, and subcollection for the label).

This new way to create netlabels items is the preferred way with this new collection system and is MUCH more streamlined and quick to get the item live and public!

PS: thanks for your patience with the glitches -- audio is a pretty big mediatype for us to change for the holidays! 8-)

Sure, I pushed it through as well. I don't understand what's up here, because I tried making a new account with no privileges, and it would let me create a new item to open-source audio. But by the sound of it, you guys can't even SEE the audio option, right?

Thanks for pushing it through.

I'm not sure what you mean by seeing the 'audio' option. I was able to create a new item and upload files to it through FTP. I also selected the audio type and the urbansprawl collection. The problem came when I had to edit the metadata. The 'collection' and 'mediatype' field were blank and I was not allowed to select them or edit them. Everytime I tried to submit the metadata I would get an error message telling me that I could not leave the collection and mediatype field blank.

Hope that helps.

Ah, this is the first good explanation of the problem that I've seen. Is this the problem you other guys are having, or is it another one?
